What We Do
Chiropractic is the leading drug-free recovery method in the world today. We also offer acupuncture, extremity adjusting. kinesiotaping, and supplements. Take a moment to discover what we do.
The Activator Method uses a small, hand-held instrument called the Activator Adjusting Instrument to deliver a gentle impulse force to the spine with the goal of restoring motion to the targeted spinal vertebra or joint. It is a very low force technique and you do not hear the traditional "popping" noises. For more information go to https://www.activator.com .
The Thompson Technique
Developed by Dr. J. Clay Thompson, has evolved into a system of analysis and means of adjusting the spinal cord. The combination produces precise adjustment.
The primary purpose of Trigger Point Therapy is to reduce the pain that results from hypersensitive muscles. Trigger points are identified by gently pressing on the surface of the skin, sensing the texture of the underlying muscle.
A trigger point is like a knot the size of a pea, buried deep in the muscle tissue. It is made up of lactic acid, a normal byproduct of muscular activity, which sometimes gets trapped in the muscle from physical, chemical or emotional stress.
This technique makes use of specialized drop-piece mechanisms in the table to assist in the adjustment. Individual cushions or "drop pieces" located along the table support each area of the spine until the thrust is given. Then, each drop-piece gently gives way, reducing the pressure needed to adjust a specific spinal segment.
* Gentle Non-Force Techniques
Acupuncture is one of the key components of the system of traditional Chinese medicine. It is proposed that Acupuncture produces it's effects through regulating the nervous system, thus aiding the activity of pain-killing biochemicals such as endorphins and immune system cells at specific sites in the body.
Just a little note to explain Dr. Handly's certification in Acupuncture since 2000, and is licensed by the Virginia Board of Medicine as a Physician that is allowed to do Acupuncture. He is a Fellow of the International Academy of Medical Acupuncture. (FIAMA)
This program in Acupuncture is specifically designed for physicians of all disciplines. Even though it is not intended as a full program in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), numerous concepts and procedures of TCM are discussed. It specifically deals with ancient and modern concepts to include theory, philosophy, history, diagnostic methods, and specific acupuncture techniques and practices. The program incorporates procedures and techniques from a variety of countries to include Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Southeast Asia as well as the People's Republic of China. In addition, special emphasis is placed on the acupuncture point location of the major meridians, the fundamentals of acupuncture physiology, the concepts of Five Elements, auriculotherapy, scalp acupuncture, and hand acupuncture. The program also focuses special emphasis on specific needling techniques, electroacupuncture, laser acupuncture along with precautions, complications, and contraindications of an acupuncture practice. Clinical competence, safety to the public and academic excellence are paramount.
Dry needling is very similar to Acupuncture as the same type of needles are used to achieve the desired effect. Dry needling is also known as myofascial trigger point therapy. It involves the use of solid filiform needles for therapy of muscle pain, including pain related to myofascial pain syndrome.
Our office employs many physical therapy modalities, including ultrasound and electrical muscle stimulation to compliment our other treatments.
